The New Jersey chapter of the American Red Cross said it was helping six people from two families after a multi-house fire on Liverpool Avenue in Egg Harbor City on Friday, Mar. 1. Red Cross volunteers assisted with immediate needs like housing, food, and clothing.
According to a GoFundMe page, the fire started at around 9 a.m. and spread to the home of Thomasita Ramos. More than $550 from at least 12 donations had been raised on the GoFundMe page as of Monday, Mar. 4.
Thomasita's daughter Nikki Ramos said the fire was devastating.
"All of their personal belongings, furniture, clothes, food, and pictures/keepsakes all were burned down," Nikki Ramos wrote on the fundraiser page. "My mom and younger sister lived in our home for 23 years. My sister lost her beloved cat. They lost EVERYTHING; burned down & destroyed. My mom is older with health issues."
Nikki Ramos also said the money will help her mother and sister pay for an apartment down payment as they "start from scratch."
